Turns out that the Pre was never programmed for the entry of an APN but the customer.

They have realized this and a fix is on the way according the O2’s German site:

“Palm is working on a fix to support the entry of APN by the user. This update will be automatically be [sic] installed on the device. After that, you will have the possibility [sic] to enter the APN data yourself.”

We are glad to see this type of support and so quickly after reports came in. Now if only all manufacturers were so aggressive about making their customers happy with their purchase.

The Pre is finally making its way worldwide after releasing here in the US just 4 months ago. Canada is enjoying the Pre as well on Bell Canada and now its time for Germany to enjoy the GSM version of the Pre.

Just released in Germany on the carrier O2 the Pre has seemed to take well as customers all over formed lines in front of retail locations trying to be one of the first in the country to own one. There have even been a few reports of people toasting the release of the Pre.

Now we want to know just how all of you who just picked up their Pre are liking it. I would love to get my hands on one as soon as the demand slows down a bit but am not sure how handling the QWERTZ keyboard would be.

The Pre ads in the US were some kind of wack, apparently hitting the target audience dead on. O2 has their own Palm Pre ads and they are definitely made to a different target audience altogether, I actually want to watch these.

This ad is in the first person view of someone enjoying all the thrills of life with the Palm Pre tagging along in hand. This is certainly way more exciting that watching a soft spoken fairy-like woman talk about anything and everything other than the Pre. After watching this the Palm Pre only seems well, fun.

If I feel like being fun I will be getting myself a Palm Pre. I have to ask, what is the target audience for this advertising campaign? I can’t wait to see the next one pumped out in Germany.

Nothing new here just the same old box we saw with the Sprint version, just some blue coloring where the yellow is on ours.

The box contents are about the same with the only difference being the European adapter for the charger. I can’t help but think to myself, why in the world is this a blurry cam photo? It appears that they had the time to get a screen protector and kill the battery before the though to take photos of it occurred in their mind. Whatever the case we get a quick glimpse of a device that is almost exactly like ours but with a QWERTZ keyboard and SIM card slot. We hope that this excites those dying to get their hands on one.

O2 is no exception to this rule as they have just notified people via email of their plans.

Instead of having one huge blowout party for the Pre on O2 they are having 6 separate parties at on October 12th in German stores in Munich, Hannover, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dortmund and Köln. The launch parties will include a buffet, music and “many more surprises” so its more like an open house type of thing.

Wouldn’t that be nice of them to give away free Pre handsets to all in attendance? The only giveaway known for sure is a free Touchstone to the first 50 people who purchase the Pre. Is there anyone that is planning on going to one of these parties?

We are now hearing that the GSM version on the Palm Pre will launch with webOS 1.1.3 rather than the new 1.2. This makes sense as the launch date being mid October makes the bulk of devices produced before the update was released.

Europe may not even see the newer webOS version till November. There is a forum post over at ppc-welt that suggests that these European Pres might even come loaded with 1.1.2 requiring you to update the handset to 1.1.3. It goes without saying that paid apps in the App Catalog in Europe is probably a long way off as a result.

I would hate to be over in Europe hearing about all of these things going on over in the US with the handset I have been dying to get. It would kill me to know that there are people out there with an updated version of my handset with more functionality and there is nothing I can do about it.

After a long waiting time we finally have turned what is said to be an Autum release date into a pinpointed day for the GSM version of the Pre. It looks like O2 will have the Pre exclusively available in the UK on October 16th just in time for . . . . . Halloween?

Many business partners of O2 will be offering the pre including Phones4U, Carphone Warehouse and a few others. Germany will be getting the Pre via O2 on October 13th with October 16th set for the United Kingdom and Ireland. Many of the European population will be able to score themselves a Palm Pre for nothing, that’s right no throwing down a cent towards the device.

Those who live in the UK can pick up a free Pre (gotta love how that sounds) on either a 24 or 36 month contract starting at £30.91 ($51). There are 5 different tariffs ranging from £29.38 ($48) to £73.41 ($120), all of which include unlimited data and Wi-Fi access.

In Germany you’ll only have to put down €1 ($2) to walk away with the Pre but you’ll have to pay the rest over 24 months at €20 ($30) per month. Germany will be getting the Pre with the recommendation that you at least get the €10 ($15) data plan or suffer the building data charges. You can also get the unlocked Pre contract free if you wish.

Ireland is offering 5 different 18-month plans that range from €40 ($59) to €100 ($148) per month. In Ireland the Price of the Pre ranges from absolutely nothing to €99 ($146) depending on the agreement. The plan that the free Pre comes with is limited to just 700 minutes, 250 texts, 25 MMS, and 1 GB of data. For those who have got to get more data in their life you are also allowed unlimited access to O2’s Wi-Fi hotspots.

We have all heard plenty about the GSM version of the Palm Pre launching overseas and the dispute between third party retailers and Palm with unlocked units. There is still no definite price point or release date but O2’s Germany site is telling us it will be sometime in “Autumn.”

There are even teaser videos launching in Europe hinting yet again that the launch date is coming sometime soon. It seems everyone is watching and waiting for this GSM version from those overseas to even some of us here who just hate CDMA networks any way you look at it. Too bad we won’t be seeing a GSM version here in the states that runs on our 3G networks.

The closest to a date we have thus far is October 30th which to this day is still nothing more than a rumor. If the 30th is a correct date they better get their stuff together and announce it already or people will be scrambling.

Unfortunately UK WebOS lovers still have to wait… but perhaps only a couple more months. An anonymous tipster informed PalmWebOSBlog that the Palm Pre will be available on O2 starting October 30th.

We already know the Pre is coming to the UK and we already know O2 is the exclusive partner… take this rumor with a grain of salt though as it is from an anonymous tipster from a just as anonymous source. But we can only hope they are right… counting down the days yet?

It looks as if the UK version of the Palm Pre will launch on O2 with BBC iPlayer installed. Dave Whalen, Palm’s senior vice president of global sales, commented saying that it is well under way on UK-specific apps right out of the box. More info after the jump.

While Whalen could not give more detailed info about the release date he did say that Palm was looking for new partner apps to launch with the Pre. There will be new British partners as Palm is working very closely with Telefonica to figure out what application developers are needed to make the most “meaningful relevant apps available.”

Whalen never said if BBC iPlayer happened to be one of the partners but it’s a safe bet that Palm is pulling for it with the huge popularity and success on the iPhone and Nokia Nseries. Only time will tell with this one.
