GSM Palm Pre For those of you who waited for the GSM Palm Pre to release so that you could have it in all of its unlocked goodness you may have run into a roadblock along the way with the APN. Turns out that the Pre was never programmed for the entry of an APN but the customer.

They have realized this and a fix is on the way according the O2’s German site:

“Palm is working on a fix to support the entry of APN by the user. This update will be automatically be [sic] installed on the device. After that, you will have the possibility [sic] to enter the APN data yourself.”

We are glad to see this type of support and so quickly after reports came in. Now if only all manufacturers were so aggressive about making their customers happy with their purchase.

well this FAQ-entry is on the site since day one of german launch (oct 14th), since then nothing happend…. so o2 can do nothing, they have to wait for palm to fix it with the next hopefully wordwide webos update

Gob smacked that Palm decided this minor but important feature was omitted from software builds. What a lack of common sense! Made activating my O2 UK Pre a pain (had to borrow a contract SIM card to do it), and my prepay SIM (which has data enabled) is effectively useless apart from voice calls, so having to use WiFi to make sure of the data capabilities of my Pre.

The build team created a pair of videos that include a time-lapse of the build as well as the odd looks the car gets when it pulls up to a gas pump and valet station. Onlookers appear puzzled but charmed at the paper-thin frame of the car, though most appear hesitant to actually take a seat behind the wheel.
