Rumors are going around stating that our Australian friends may not be getting the Palm Pre or any Pre device for that matter for quite some time if at all. Reports are saying that Palm has completely pulled out of the country all together.

We must make note that the Senior Executives of Telstra was quoted back in July saying “We have spoken to Palm and our understanding is that [Palm] is only interested in the US and European market.” PreCentral got to work and received the following reply directly from Palm:

“At this moment in time, we do not yet have any plans to launch the Palm Pre or any of our new WebOS products in Asia Pacific. Our focus right now is to establish a strong presence in North America and Europe. However, we do not discount the possibility of offering this new range of products at a later date.

It is therefore not a rumor that Palm has significantly reduced its presence in the region to one of operational support to our existing customers requiring our in-warranty services and technical support for our sold products.”

Australia seems to have the worst luck with mobile phones, some of us remember that they were one of the last to get a chance at owning an Android-powered handset when Android launched. We are all hoping that Australia does get a webOS device sometime in the near future because many of us here in the US and Europe just love it to death. Hang in there guys!
