thumb_tall_app-catalog-unavailablePalm has had oodles of trouble lately with updates and heavy amounts of traffic in the App Catalog prompting entirely too much of the pictured messages to the right. Palm had its first big clash with the homebrew movement on webOS last night as they released paid apps into the App Catalog.

If you had a homebrew version of one of the applications that were released in the official App Catalog as a paid app it would be seen as an upgrade and thus give it to you for free. This creates a lot of problems for developers who are creating applications and not getting paid for them all because they released the app in the homebrew section first. Immediately after figuring out that this was taking place Palm pulled the apps and spent the night working on a solution.

Everyone rejoice as early this morning the paid apps are back in the App Catalog and working without a hitch. It’s great to know Palm will stay up all night to turn out a solution to a problem so quickly. Now the App Catalog knows which versions of an app it previously had offered preventing the free upgrade. There are still reports of the App Catalog unavailable notice, if you get one of these try first deleting the homebrew app and reinstalling it from the App Catalog.
