It seems another anonymous tipster is bringing us bad news regarding the launch of webOS 1.2. Apparently the release may be delayed AGAIN. Sprint needs to test changes that they have made to the first leaked webOS 1.2 essentially making the new release webOS 1.2.1.
There is also word that this release will also re-enable the iTunes sync with the Pre as we had predicted. According to the tipster fixing the sync issue has a snowballing process that takes longer each time.
- Time it took for Palm Developers to re-enable iTunes sync for webOS 1.1: about five minutes (they just had to change the Vendor ID, after all)
- Time it took for Palm Developers to re-enable iTunes sync for webOS 1.2.1: just shy of two and a half hours (we’ll be extremely curious to see if this is true and how they did it)
- Time it will take the next time (and there will be a next time): totally unclear, but Palm is committed to keep doing it until that time estimate gets to be something over a 40 man-hours or so.
Obviously keeping the Pre syncing with iTunes is just that important and with iTunes being one of the leading music players it only makes sense to make sure that it is supported. Everyone in some way or another has used iTunes at some point, most would rather just use the music manager they already have rather than download a new program that they are unfamiliar with. Lets just hope this doesn’t take too long.
