Mojo SDK: Has Potential But Currently Flawed
| by PalmWebOS.org on August 13th, 2009 |
While consumers are mostly caught up with hardware (Palm Pre) and geeks like us know that the software is what runs more than half of the show (WebOS) its the developers who make the platform what it is with their applications, and to do that they need a clean and easy to use dev platform (Mojo SDK). Infoworld has taken a look at the development process and drawn some conclusions about Mojo SDK that overall are pretty promising.
To test out Mojo SDK, Peter Wayner built a few WebOS apps – nothing quite like a first hand look.
The Mojo SDK doesn’t have the word “beta” floating around it, even though it’s much younger than many other products that still sport the label. I think it would be fair to apply it here. The general outline of the system is solid and usable, but there are numerous rough edges and dark, undocumented corners. These should be easy for Palm to fix with ample time and attention.
That is how he begins his dive into his Mojo Review and based on that I’m pretty sure you can tell where its headed. Definitely worth reading the full article. The bottom line is that Palm has a great start and there is only one place to go… UP! Look how long Google tags their projects with “Beta”, for example it wasn’t until a few weeks ago that GMail got the beta label taken off! WebOS is the youngest mobile platform out there right now and glitches and small setbacks are expected.
In good time the Mojo SDK will be squeeky clean and ready for the masses to enjoy. Palm’s persistence and patience will pay off… why do you think they’re waiting so long to launch the Palm Pre in other countries and other WebOS devices completely? They’re waiting for the right moment… and I’m glad they are.
