Palm Pre needs virtual keyboard too?

How inconvenient is it for you when you receive a text message that warrants a simple yes or no reply and you have to open up the keyboard to type it? This may seem like nothing but when one of your hands it tied up this may become more of an irritation.
For weeks after Google’s T-Mobile G1 came out people have griped out not having a virtual keyboard and now it seems to be happening with the Palm Pre. In a recent study done by Strategy Analytics has indicated that the bulk of Palm Pre users in the US would in fact like to see a virtual keyboard. This may surprise some as the screen is not of the largest size making a keyboard take up most of the screen. I myself am with the majority on this one; all too often I have to slide that keyboard out when in reality I get a little lazy too.
I see Palm listening to customers and really working to get out the features that they are asking for in webOS, especially in its earliest of stages. Google did it now its time for us to have our moment. Do you fell the Palm Pre needs to have a virtual keyboard even though it includes a physical QWERTY keyboard? If so would this be your standard numeric keypad with T9 or would you want to cram all the letters in the alphabet into the screen space.

Let the users choose what kind of input method they want, just like what HTC Sense has – numeric keypad with T9 for sms or whatever. Customisation is key to winning the loyalty of users just like how Firefox is doing with all their add-ons.

That it does. We need options and it really would not be a burden to anyone who does not like it because you could always turn it off.

I agree, provide all the options and let the user choose. A keyboard similar to the one on the Instinct would be great and actually the screens are comparable in size. I also had a third party touch qwerty keyboard for my HTC Touch that worked great.

I agree, its nice to have a virt Keyboard for quick replies (yes, no, ok). When its time to crank out a serious email then you have the full keyboard. I think this would also help with reducing some of the issues we hear with the slider mechanism giving trouble by reducing the number of times you have slide this device open.

there should in fact be a virtual keyboard, it takes to much to keep sliding up the phoen for short responses via text messages….please make a onscreen keyboard available.

I would love a virtual keyboard among a few other options.. such as more ringtones, abiity to assign ringtones to text message.

I had trouble with the ability to assign ringtones to individual contacts. It took out text notifications for me in general unless specifically assigned. Not sure If it was an error on my part or a bug. Virtual keyboard is such a nice option. Why cant these companies realize that we NEED this?
