Just the other day we broke word that MLB.com was creating a Premium Content application for the sports fan in all of us Pre owners. Well the press release just hit and this “application” is not all that it seemed it would be. Rather than creating a native app or waiting for the official SDK to release they have gone the route of web app.

The web app will give users all the “Premium Content” that their little heart desires. Below is a list of highlights that come with your payment.

mlb-mobile-pre

  • MLB.com Mobile Gameday Audio – Listen to live audio broadcasts of every Major League Baseball game through the final out of the 2009 World Series. Each game will offer the choice of listening to the home or away broadcasts without any blackout restrictions.
  • MLB.com Gameday – Follow every pitch of every game with a detailed graphic presentation and live statistics.
  • In-Game Video Highlights – Get real-time, high quality video highlights delivered directly to the smartphone quickly after the play happens on the field.
  • Expanded scoreboard – View live statistical data from every MLB game, including linescores, current runners on base and other game details.

Early reviews have gone on to say that the audio portion loads really quickly and video looks great. Many may ask why in the world pay the $2.99 a month or flat one time fee of $14.99 for access to a web app. We ask the question why Palm Pre users are paying $14.99 when iPhone owners are only charged $9.99. Already given it a try? Let us know what you think in the comments or here in the forums.
