Palm Pre on Verizon network?
| by Shawn Brown on July 10th, 2009 |
Someone has come up with a hack that seemingly allows the Palm Pre to operate on the Verizon Wireless network. As with most of these types of hacks in the early stages there is voice and text but no data support, at least not yet anyway.
It is believed, though not proven that webOS is checking to see if the device is provisioned properly before allows data to connect. In order to remedy this theory there must be another hack in order to somehow bypass the provisioning check. The most difficult part of this task is to get Verizon to accept the MEID of the handset which uniquely identifies it.
This video gives a pretty good visual (and audio) confirmation that the Pre is indeed working on Verizon’s network but nothing as far as a how-to tutorial. For most people the wait till Verizon picks up the Pre is a much safer bet than trying to hack the Sprint version. We will keep you posted on further developments so stay tuned.
