pre-codeWhat happens if you’re a developer and you totally drive your phone into the ground – it is broken? You reflash the phone with the standard ROM and you should be back up and running in no time, assuming your phone isn’t completely bricked. With the Palm Pre you do this by using “WebOS Reset Doctor” which just leaked out.

The most interesting part… it includes files for the 195MB WebOS root!  This means a couple things:

  1. Developers can try their hands at hacking away, getting access to capabilities that would otherwise be impossible.
  2. Often times when you dive into code like this, you’ll find unfinished portions of code and various comments that provide insight regarding future developments

So far this hasn’t turned up MUCH but give it some time, this was just found yesterday. One interesting note is that that Palm Pixie – rumored to be the code name for the upcoming (and leaked) Palm Eos – is found. For example in /etc/miniboot.sh:

# Start novacomd service
if [[ "$hostName" == "castle" ]];then
modprobe g_composite product=0×8002
elif [[ "$hostName" == "pixie" ]];then
modprobe g_composite product=0×8012
else
modprobe -q g_composite
fi

Very nice! I hope some other developments and findings come out of the WebOS Reset Doctor, it is certainly a huge opportunity. We’ll let you know!
