It was only a few hours ago we told you about the Palm Pre Crashing problem upon opening/closing the keyboard. We’ve got some good news – the problem is with the BATTERY and not the Pre itself. It is a tad too small and when rigid movements are made, like closing the keyboard, the slight jiggle is enough to disconnect the Pre from its power source. This means 2 things:

1) You can temporarily fix it youself: wedge a folded up piece of paper in the battery compartment so the battery sits firmly in place.

2) You don’t have to wait to get a replacement Pre, only a replacement Pre battery, which actually means there shouldn’t be a wait at all.

Thats the worst “fix” I’ve ever heard – “shove a piece of paerp in the battery compartment to fix Palm’s shoddy design engineering choices”. I’ve got a better fix for you – throw the POS out and buy a phone from a company that can actually engineer some hardware.

This may seem ridiculously kludgy but it takes two minutes to accomplish and works like a charm. My Palm kept randomly powering off and since I did this about five days ago, no more random power offs or resets plus my battery life has improved. Love the phone overall so though I wish they had gotten this right to begin with, I’ll take the easy and effective fix too.

works great after this fix. it seamed stupid but my battery has lasted alot longer i use to get out of the university( my normal schedule) and only have about 20% now i had about 61% this works great my uncle uses his more often and has to charge 3 time a day and it kept turning of after this fix it hasn’t turned of on low battery and only charges once. THIS IS JUST WHAT PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW AND PALM NEEDS TO FIX.

all i did was extend the metal prongs slightly in the pre’s battery compartment that seemed to have done the trick, no crappy looking piece of paper in my phone then…
