Palm Pre Costs $170 To Build

As soon as the past 5 months of waiting for the Palm Pre came together, some of its first owners were even more eager to take it apart. That includes the guys from RapidRepair who totally disassembled the Palm Pre until it looked something like this:

And if you add all that up in terms of cost and toss in the price of putting it all together, the total tab is likely to top out at around $170. Considering you’ll pay $199 for the device after contract and rebate, not a bad deal at all.

    That is just the physical phone. No accounting for R&D on the device, as well as the development of the OS.

    Well you have research and development, and software. These things are not cheap.
