The ONE Thing The Palm Pre Needs
| by PalmWebOS.org on May 27th, 2009 |
There has been so much excitement and noise surrounding the launch of the Palm Pre that nobody has really attempted hone in, focus and boil it down to one fact/feature/issue that the Pre needs to get overwhelmingly right. Part of that is because the phone’s strengths are based on synergy where the combination of the parts is greater than the individual pieces. But remember the name of the OS… WebOS.

The Palm Pre (and inherently WebOS) must get web browsing right. Not only right but close to perfect. This is the solution that James Kendrick came to on a article from Salon.com – I tend to agree. I think the Palm Pre has to get web browsing undeniably right for it to be successful.
What do YOU think is the one thing the Palm Pre needs to do almost flawlessly to compete with the iPhone and Android?

Depends:
Business — Needs to support SYNCML calendars, support office 100%.
Personal — Just has to be cool. Almost the Anti-Apple. Nowadays, everyone has an iphone. Much like the razor 4-5 years ago, people will start rejecting it.

Bah, forgot to mention. To TRULY succeed palm needs to foster the development community. I mean, embrace it, provide it every amount of resource it can. Many developers are jaded on the Apple process. Palm should take less of a cut, and really get to work on their development folks.

I have over 500 contacts in my facebook. I dont really talk to half of them because they are mere aquintences. I really hope that just by adding one or ten of my actual Facebook contacts to my phonebook doesnt mean that I have to add all 500+.

All the above and…
Flash:
To be the first true flash able smart phone, obvious really.
Universal search:
To include the content of emails, text messages sent or received and instant chat conversations stored on the phone
Copy and paste:
To include the content of emails, text messages sent or received and instant chat conversations stored on the phone
Your Media Anywhere:
Many people have mentioned the power of iTunes but I feel iTunes trips up when it comes to the freedom to manage your media when you’re not connected to your home/work computer. iPhone users can’t rip music on any machine or manage the music they own until they get home. Surely a smart phones remit is to enable it’s user to not have to be tied to a desktop at all. Palm Pre is the closest device to reaching that ultimate goal.
