pre-norrisSynergy. What a lovely word. But is their such thing as over-synergizing? There could be if Mark Wilson from Gizmodo is right about his article “Why I Won’t Be Syncing Facebook with My Palm Pre

Part of the beauty in WebOS and synergy is the way it ties together different parts of your life – contacts, calendar, etc… in an effortless way and connects the dots FOR you even before you realize they should be connected. But what about if you don’t WANT them to be connected?

An example would include all those Facebook contacts – surely you don’t want all your hundreds of Facebook contacts, to random high school blasts of the past to former booty calls, automatically imported to your contact list. But according to Wilson, WebOS will assume you do. And since Facebook’s API doesn’t allow you to customize the integration into WebOS, it is an all or nothing scenario. Either ALL of those contacts/faces will appear in your core list of contacts or none of them will – have your choice.

Maybe there IS such a thing as over-synergizing… the jury will be out on June 6th.

Oh for the love. Seriously. How many people scroll through their contacts to find a person. Me, I type their name. Guess what, I could have 10,000 contacts, and yet things would still be fine.

To much data > Not enough data.

    At least imho.

Come on I can’t be the only one who doesn’t treat facebook friends like currency. If you don’t have an interest in contacting them why are they in your Facebook to begin with.

What a ridiculous claim! No one scrolls through contacts unless you only have a VERY short list (like under 50). Who on smartphone has so few ocntacts, We ALL type the name to find it. So what?

Personally I LOVE that it will include all those contacts. I hate it when I left someone out of my contacts and later find myself suddenly looking for them and cannot find them, I think synergy is perfect as it is.

An interesting point guess. So are we saying that there seems to be no way of deleting contacts once you sync with facebook, does the sync continue to check against your contacts in facebook meaning it will add new contacts after the first sync and re-save deleted contacts?

I’d be more than happy to delete contacts I don’t count as smart phone worthy. It would be like having a sheet of bubble wrap and another excuse to play with the best phone OS on the planet. Plus Surely there would be more control if the sync was periodic rather than a user activated process.

    Who can find out?

Just don’t link the profile to your contacts.
