Best Buy To Start Waiting List For Pre-Less Customers On June 6th

We had questions (date and price) and we got answers, but since Sprint CEO Dan Hesse commented on the limited Palm Pre availabilty, it has sparked a whole new round of questions aimed mainly at “how the heck can I maximize my chances of getting a Pre on launch day?” Best Buy Mobile Director of Merchandising, Scott Anderson, took a few minutes to clear some things up with BGR.
If you go to BestBuy on June 6th and there aren’t enough Palm Pre phones to go around, you can opt to go on a waiting list so that when the next batch of units come in, you’ve already reserved your space in line:
Q: What about preorders? A lot of people are incredibly excited over the Palm Pre and that the device will be available at Best Buy with an “instant” mail-in-rebate. Will you guys be doing any preorders, reservations, etc? How will you deal with long lines if there are some?
A: The addition of the Palm Pre expands our already large assortment of smartphones. We are excited about the opportunity to present consumers with many choices and solutions as they look to meet their individual mobile technology needs. Best Buy Mobile is initiating a “ticketing process” beginning on June 6. Meaning, if any store were to sell through all of its inventory, the store would begin to log customer names in an effort to prioritize them for the next shipment’s arrival.
This is a great thing for folks who fear they’ll walk away empty handed. At least you’ll leave having accomplished SOMETHING. Of course if you get on the list and then realize that the Wal-Mart or Radioshack down the road had NO line while you waited to get a stinkin’ ticket… so yeah. There are still a lot of questions, but thanks for at least trying to clarify, Mr. Anderson.
