Palm Pre Pricing, BestBuy Rumors

When, where and how much? That is what Palm Pre fans desperately want to know and a new rumor that has surfaced offers interesting possibilities. In short: June 7th at BestBuy for $1,000. But you’ll want to know the details…
According to BGR, every single BestBuy Mobile is scheduled to receive at least one Palm Pre phone on May 6th. But be warned, the company will only get 4,500 units and there are at least 1,000+ BestBuy locations in the United States. BestBuy Mobile will be selling these scarcely found Pre phones on June 7th for the following prices:
- $199.99 – new customers with 2-year contract
- $299.99 – existing customer upgrade
- $999.99 – no strings attached
There is no telling when the full launch of the Pre will be schedule but if you ask me this is an absolutely TERRIBLE idea. You’ll have a TON of people trying to be first in line for these phones and the disappointments will FAR outnumber the 4,500 happy Pre owners. While this is just a rumor, it is one that will supremely disappoint me if true. Other websites are giving Palm a really hard time for what they suggest is a “planned shortage” to increase hype and demand. I’m fine with that… but only 4,500 units across America at BestBuy Mobile with some stores only getting ONE Palm Pre?
That is just ridiculous. I hope I can file this rumor in the trash bin soon because if its true… I will be supremely disappointed.

If you can name one other device that is priced at $1000 outright with out a contract, I would be amazed. That would mean Sprint, Palm, and Best Buy split almost $900. Thats outrageous. I bet its $699 full price at bestbuy and $599 or so at a Sprint store.
